In the South, we have four seasons: hot, disgustingly hot, Football, and Christmas. While we don’t get much in the sense of changing leaves or falling snow, we do have some pretty spectacular weather and views, which makes couples from near and far want to share their vows along the Gulf Coast.
While nationally June takes the cake for most popular wedding month, along the Gulf Coast, we have two times of the year that bring the most wedding bells- Spring (Mid-February through early June) and Fall (September to mid-November), with October seeing more weddings overall.
There are a lot of factors that go into deciding the date or time of year to hold your wedding:
Spring and Fall work extremely well for many couples who choose to get married in our area because it’s not in the heat of Summer, there aren’t many major holidays to compete with, and even though there are many football games to be seen in the Fall, you can often work around them, stream them at your reception, or ask for your guests’ forgiveness (kidding…sort of).
The best part about it too, is that these wedding seasons are long enough that you are often not paying a high premium to have your dream wedding accompanied by welcoming weather.
Many brides believe that choosing an off-season wedding date will knock a chunk off their budget. While this may be true in some areas (think the melting snow of May in Massachusetts… say that 10 times fast!), you can still snag great vendors within your budget during peak season on the Gulf Coast. If you still aren’t sure an April or October wedding is doable for you, try a weekday or afternoon affair to save some dough while delivering a memorable and unique event.
When choosing a wedding date, think about how you want to feel on your wedding day and how accommodating you wish to be for your guests. While it is truly about what works best for the bride and groom, do you really want to make your guests choose between attending your wedding or having Christmas Eve with their family, or between sweating their tooshies off at your outdoor July ceremony and staying where the climate is cool and air conditioning is plenty?
You really can have the best of all words when choosing a wedding date on the Gulf Coast. Whether you are envisioning a perfect spring day with colorful flowers and sunshine galore, or an elegant and rich Autumn soiree where your guests will still be warm enough to leave their coats at home, your dream wedding is possible here.
