The father/daughter dance is a pretty typical staple at weddings, even if it displayed in a different form (a dance with the bride's mother, brother, step-father, grandfather, etc).
No matter your take on the father/daughter dance and what feelings you want to portray through it, there is a song out there for you!
The father/daughter dance does require some extra thought as there are some songs that are a the perfect waltz tempo but lyrics that scream, "sketchy!" For instance, have you ever actually thought about the message of the beloved Brown Eyed Girl?
Sometime I’m overcome thinking ’bout
Making love in the green grass
Behind the stadium with you
My brown eyed girl
You’re my brown eyed girl
So to avoid any creepy lyric snaffus and to just enjoy the dance with ever-lovin' dad, we have compiled a list of 10 great options for the father/daughter dance.
1.Shout by the Isley Brothers
Okay, we'll start with a fun one! If getting some laughter instead of tears from your audience is your M-O, then a choreographed number to a tune like this may just be your ticket.
2. Fly Me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra
While many a classic wedding involves at lease one Sinatra classic, we vote this one as our favorite for the father/daughter dance. It's a bit unexpected, easy to dance to, and is still the kind of upbeat song everyone will be toe-tapping along with.
3. Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
We just can't get enough of this song for all things wedding related! You may have also seen this pop up on our previous post, but it works so well for the father/daughter song, we couldn't help but include it here, too.
4. Father and Daughter by Paul Simon
While sweet and sentimental enough to share the perfect father/daughter relationship, this song is far from cheesy! Leave it to Paul SImon to pull that off.
5. Never Alone by Lady Antebellum and Jim Brickman
Never Alone has a similar sentiment to I Hope You Dance by Leeanne Wommack but is far less used, allowing you a refreshing message and tune that maybe not all of your guests have heard. This is a great option for those who maybe don't want to showcase all of the lovey-dovies.
6. My Love Is by Holly Golightly
Where are our vintage, finger-snapping brides!? This one is for you and we just can't get enough!
7. Lullabye by Billy Joel
This is the perfect song for dancing the evening away with your head on daddy's shoulder. If that's the kind of relationship you have, this would be a great option for you.
8. Daughter by Loudon Wainwright III
Another great lighthearted option for the daddy-daughter duo who just wants to smile and sway through their special moment.
9. When the Stars Go Blue by Tim McGraw
For our Southern brides, this one may not be the first song to come to mind in the country wedding song lineup but the tempo is so pretty with lyrics to match. If you are a McGraw fan, we think this is a great option for you and dear ol' Dad.
10. Daughters by John Mayer
You didn't think we could get through this list without this gem, did you? This is a great option for many scenarios but mostly we love it because it brings mom into the mix, as well.
Whichever song you choose to take a twirl around the dance floor with dad, pick one that means something to you or makes you smile. After all, that's what you do when you think about daddy dearest, right?
What other father/daughter favorite would you add to the list?

A man’s mother is usually the epitome of selfless love, adoration, and that do-literally-anything-for-you kind of relationship. On his wedding day, the spot for most important woman in his life is shifting. This is why it is so important to share your special day with the woman who sacrificed and loved so deeply from day one to always see her son happy, especially on the day he joins his life with his blushing bride.
Many grooms and their mothers have chosen songs from across the spectrum to showcase their relationship in a special way. If you are looking for something that may not be heard at every wedding but special and emotional just the same, you have come to the right place.
What unique song would you add to the list for the mother/son dance?
Brides these days may still be dreaming of walking down the aisle to their prince charming, but their dreams may not always be to the tune of Mendelssohn’s Wedding March.
With all of the creativity, trendsetting, and DIY that is displayed at today’s weddings, it only makes sense that yet another tradition, the bridal march, is getting an upgrade as well. While there is something to be said for the brides who choose to go the traditional route, we know it isn’t for everyone.
So here’s to you, you colored-dress wearing, non-flower bouquet carrying, bridesmen having, new tradition creating bride. These songs are for you.
What songs would you add to the list of atypical bridal march songs?
